In recent years, the SUV has been hailed by much of the nation as the ideal mode of transportation for families. Before its prominence in the early 2000s, however, the minivan had held this mantle. Some drivers still prefer the minivan as it provides many notable unique options in its storage, seating, and powertrains, and it’s perfect for the annual family road trip.

For many years, the one brand with a foothold in the minivan segment was Chrysler, and they put considerable effort into the attractive Pacifica. However, when you’re on top, there are always those who will try to knock you down: enter the Kia Carnival, one of the Pacifica’s few rivals. As your friendly neighborhood Chrysler dealer, we here at McHugh Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat want to objectively evaluate both models and determine which one is the better offering.

Heading Out to the Highway

First and foremost, examining the performance of a minivan is somewhat different than reviewing a car. Minivans need a capable powertrain to carry passengers and cargo, go the distance when and where it matters most, and provide a respectable amount of fuel economy when the situation warrants it. Let’s dive in and see what both offer in this category.

Kia equips the Carnival with a 3.5L V6 that churns out a healthy dose of 290 hp. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive is the sole drivetrain offered, which is one of the downsides the Carnival suffers from. While AWD isn’t a vital requirement for a minivan, dealing with the winter and those family excursions that require you to battle the elements is much easier when all four wheels are getting the best traction.

By all accounts, the Carnival—like many of Kia’s other vehicles—offers smooth handling and is relatively easy to operate in the city and suburbs. The fuel economy is also rather favorable, with the EPA estimating that drivers can achieve 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway for a combined 22 MPG.

When you’re looking for more, that’s precisely what you can look forward to with the Chrysler Pacifica. Like the Carnival, the Pacifica comes standard with FWD and a 3.6L V6 that bestows 287 hp. The engine pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission for ideal performance, but there are more options if this isn’t what excites you. Unlike the Carnival, the Pacifica can be equipped with AWD, which certainly comes in handy for the family who loves their adventures to be more daring.

One notable advantage that’s impossible to overlook is the hybrid setup of the Pacifica, which pairs its V6 with two electric motors. While this diminishes your power rating to 260 hp—which is still admirable—you get 32 miles of electric-only driving that can be used for short trips around town, making this model more viable for the city-dweller. The Pacifica can also tow up to 3,600 lbs, making it more versatile than its competitors.

Interior, Storage, & Technology

Parents want a vehicle that provides ample comfort; as we all know, children tend to be restless with long road trips when they’re not being entertained. As such, an ideal minivan needs to provide a fair amount of both for the road ahead. Not to mention, when the situation warrants it, storage space is also a priority for many. Let’s take a look and see how both deliver in these respective areas.

Kia has never been a brand that skimps on comfort. In recent years, it has demonstrated a capacity for giving its customers everything they want regarding a sophisticated interior and the latest technology for the road. However, in the Carnival, it almost appears misplaced and diminishes the one thing many have found favorable in the minivan: practicality. The Carnival is ideal for those who want the feel of unabashed luxury and showmanship, especially with its available infotainment screen, which spans 8.0 inches but can be upgraded to 12.3 inches.

The Carnival’s luxurious seating hampers its storage capabilities, with 145.1 cu.ft. of available room when the second and third rows are folded down. With all the seats upright, you still have 40.2 cu.ft. of room, more than twice the trunk size of an average four-door sedan. Depending on how much you want regarding an immersive entertainment system, a rear-seat media suite is available, and the top trim sweetens the deal with a twelve-speaker stereo system from Bose.

Suppose the Kia Carnival emphasizes posh and places practicality in the rear-view mirror. In that case, the Chrysler Pacifica balances both aspects in a zen-like presentation that will undoubtedly appeal to anyone. All versions of the Pacifica come with a 10.1-inch infotainment screen with the latest version of Stellanis’ Uconnect 5 software. Like the Carnival, the Pacifica is compatible with Apple and Android products.

However, the Pacifica can also be integrated with Amazon Fire TV, which its available rear-seat media suite (with dual touchscreens) can employ joyfully. There’s also a notable variety of seating arrangements, with upper trims having optional captain’s chairs for the second row. The Pacifica flexes its muscles in terms of practicality, as the Carnival manages a touch more total storage space than the Pacifica behind the front row, even though the Pacifica uses its space better.

Safety: Every Parent’s Concern

Pragmatic matters—like storage and keeping the children entertained—aside, all parents can agree that safety is the top priority when finding the ideal means of transportation. It’s only fitting that we saved the most crucial aspect of our comparison for last, as it’s what makes the difference between an adequate family vehicle and an exceptional one.

In providing drivers peace of mind, Kia is one of the leading entities in the industry, especially with its extensive powertrain coverage. Also, Kia provides some adequate standard features, but the ones drivers will most enjoy are relegated to the higher trims. All versions of the Carnival come with automated emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and automated high beams, but adaptive cruise control—a feature many families are keen to take advantage of—is available only in the upper trims.

In a move that would make the late Lee Iacocca proud of the company he once led proudly, the Chrysler Pacifica provides more standard safety features than the competition (with more available, too). Chrysler matches everything Kia offers and makes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert standard on every trim. As a testament to the brand’s tireless dedication to customer care, the Pacifica also received a five-star rating from the NHTSA in collision testing.

The Chrysler Pacifica at McHugh CDJRF

We examined both vehicles closely, looking at their powertrains, storage, technology, and safety features, and—once again—Chrysler retains its crown as the king of the minivan. By offering more standard features and allowing drivers to choose a hybrid powertrain, customers can select the version of the Pacifica that works best for them.

Making such a choice is easy when you shop with us at McHugh Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat. Not only do we have the Chrysler Pacifica on our lot, but we also have many other offerings that are all held to the highest quality standards. We’re happy to oblige if you’re in the market for a new vehicle and only want the best. See us today and experience the difference first-hand.

That’s a fantastic question and one that we love to get to answer because we’re also incredibly excited about the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica. To be fair, as a Chrysler dealer, our enthusiasm probably isn’t shocking, but it’s based on a lot more than the brand of vehicles we sell.

It also comes down to how Chrysler designs their vehicles and the way in which their lineup will improve over the next few years. The Pacifica—one of the most impressive and highly awarded minivans in the industry—is central to this remarkable lineup, so let’s take a look at what the 2024 Pacifica offers, and you’ll see why so many people love driving it.

Gorgeous Style Inside and Out

The first thing you’re likely to notice about the 2024 Pacifica is how absolutely stunning it looks as you approach it. While there’s no denying that this is a minivan, it’s a far cry from the somewhat boxy and plain-looking models many of us rode in when we were younger.

The 2024 Pacifica is a master class in design choices that emphasize style and sophistication while still delivering a functional and practical piece of machinery. It has bold lighting on the outside that catches the eye and helps improve visibility when driving at night, along with convenient exterior details like an available hands-free power liftgate and even hands-free power sliding side doors that make loading and unloading the Pacifica incredibly easy.

Inside, you’ll find a gorgeous interior that’s as inviting as it is functional, creating a space that’s perfect for families without ever feeling mundane. The Pinnacle trim, for example, boasts quilted Nappa leather-trimmed seating with second-row leather-trimmed lumbar pillows to ensure you and your passengers are incredibly comfortable.

With seating for up to eight passengers inside, there are hundreds of possible seating configurations in the Pacifica, giving you the kind of functionality that drivers of other vehicles can only dream of. Along with tons of room inside, the Pacifica offers best-in-class towing of up to 3,600 lbs to ensure you can handle anything you need with it.

Bold Performance and Engineering

The exquisite design of the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica goes well beyond its exterior looks and style; it’s also been engineered for robust performance and to deliver a fantastic driving experience. For starters, you have the standard 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine that provides 287 hp, ensuring you have a great time on the road.

One of our favorite things about this powertrain is that it’s available with all-wheel drive (AWD) to boost performance even further. An AWD Pacifica is incredibly fun to drive and ensures you get excellent traction and control even in the roughest and trickiest of driving conditions. This is something you don’t see all that often on minivans, but it’s the perfect way to ensure you have the power you need to get where you’re going, with traction and handling that get you there safely.

Did We Mention the Hybrid Powertrain?

One of our favorite features of the 2024 Pacifica is that it offers a second engine option that surpasses what you’d expect in this kind of vehicle. Not only is it a hybrid powertrain but it’s a plug-in option that transforms this stylish and sophisticated minivan into a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) that can change the way you drive.

If you want to maximize fuel efficiency and you have a passing interest in what driving an all-electric vehicle might be like, then a PHEV is the perfect point of entry. It features a conventional gas-powered engine along with a battery-powered motor that provides additional power; with a PHEV, you can charge the battery for the motor through an external outlet, and it also provides a limited all-electric range.

The PHEV version of the Pacifica gets 260 hp, which is slightly less than the standard version, but you get incredible range and fuel efficiency. For one thing, the 2024 Pacifica PHEV can go up to about 32 miles on electricity alone without touching your gas tank at all. This is perfect for running errands nearby or making a short trip.

Not only that, but thanks to its PHEV design, this model gets an estimated 502 miles of range on a full tank of gas. That’s a remarkable distance, ideal for getting through your weekly routine, heading out on a long road trip, or handling anything else you need with minimal stops for gas.

Remarkable Comfort and Innovative Tech

If you have a big family, then the 2024 Pacifica will provide you with one of the most comfortable rides on the market. We mentioned the incredible Nappa leather interior details of the Pinnacle trim already, but even other trims provide you with sophisticated style and comfort. The Touring L trim comes with leatherette-trimmed seats, while the Touring has premium cloth-trimmed seats that can take some abuse and keep looking great. Combine that with a tremendous amount of space inside for you and your passengers to stretch out, and you have something special.

The tech features of the Chrysler Pacifica are equally impressive, starting with a gorgeous 10.1-inch infotainment display that’s easy to use, especially with wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Alexa Built-In makes it easy to use Amazon features with your 2024 Pacifica, so you can start your vehicle, adjust its interior comfort settings, and even send information to your navigation system through your other Alexa-enabled devices.

An available rear-seat entertainment system with Amazon Fire TV is a great way to keep passengers entertained on long road trips, while a stunning Harman Kardon premium sound system fills the cabin with incredible audio thanks to nineteen speakers and a ten-inch subwoofer.

Advanced Safety for You and Your Family

No matter what kind of vehicle you’re looking at, nothing is more important than how well it helps keep you safe on the road. This is arguably even more vital when you’re considering a large vehicle for your family, like the 2024 Pacifica.

Fortunately, Chrysler understands this, and the Pacifica comes with a fantastic selection of standard safety technology, including a Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and a Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking System. You also get a LaneSense Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, a Blind Spot Monitoring System, ParkSense Rear Park Assist, and Rear Cross Path Detection that helps make it easier to safely back out of parking spots and navigate tight spaces.

If you’re interested in taking things even further, then Chrysler offers a number of additional options to enhance the safety of your family. An available 360-degree Surround View Camera, for example, gives you a virtual view of your vehicle while maneuvering at low speeds. You can get ParkSense Front Park Assist to make it easier to safely pull into a parking spot, while Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist can handle steering for you while getting into a tight parking space. While none of these tools can replace careful driving, they can make it a lot easier to stay safe on the road and protect your loved ones.

Ready to Get Excited About a Minivan?

We know that minivans haven’t historically been the most exciting vehicles, but this one’s different. You deserve a great car that you’re excited to drive, especially if it’s a practical minivan that provides you and your family with an enjoyable means of transportation.

Whether you’re interested in going more than 500 miles from a full tank of gas with the Pacifica PHEV model, or you like the advanced entertainment and safety tech that’s available, this is a minivan that redefines what we expect in a family vehicle—so it’s easy to see why so many people are thrilled to experience everything the Pacifica has to offer!

A forest green 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sahara parked outside near a Jeep dealer.

Have you noticed that Jeep Wranglers seem to be everywhere? Granted, Wranglers have been incredibly popular since their introduction to the automotive market in 1987, but it’s clear that they weren’t just a fad. While many types of vehicles are available at your local Jeep dealer, there’s something incredible about the modern Jeep Wrangler. When introducing the 2024 Jeep Wrangler, Jeep brand CEO Christian Meunier indicated that this level of passion is actively engineered into the vehicle itself:

“The Jeep Wrangler is the archetypal adventure hero, embodying the spirit and the soul of the Jeep brand. Since its introduction, we have sold almost 5 million Wranglers around the world, setting new levels of 4×4 capability with each new generation. Today, we are raising the bar once again by combining the most capable Wrangler to date, with more technology, comfort and safety features. This is a no-compromise combination enhanced by the freedom to choose from four different powertrains, including our electrified 4xe, which is the best-selling PHEV in America.”

But while it stands to reason that a brand CEO would be stoked about the Wrangler, what is it that makes ordinary drivers like us want to climb behind the wheel? Take a look at some of the special traits that we think make the Wrangler stand out above all other cars on the road.

It’s Incredibly Capable

While the Wrangler has earned its reputation as a highly capable off-roader, many of the same features that help it succeed off-road are just as helpful on the road. For example, the choice of four different advanced 4×4 systems, two with a part-time transfer case and two with a full-time transfer case, might be very exciting to a seasoned off-roader but mean nothing to the average driver. However, it doesn’t take drivers thousands of trail miles to understand that these systems allow power to go to a specific wheel when the going gets rough. Whether that roughness is I-70 in the spring or a weekly trip to Hocking Hills is entirely up to the driver.

The 2024 Wrangler also includes first and second-row side curtain airbags. Considering that the Wrangler is perhaps best known for its open-air driving options, such as its removable doors, roof, and windows, this is an exceptional safety move for the brand. Driver assistance technology such as Forward Collision Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control are standard on the Sport S trim and above, giving the Wrangler additional street cred. The Wrangler is also designed to tow up to 5,000 lbs and can be equipped with a factory-installed WARN winch that can handle up to 8,000 lbs of heavy lifting, both of which can be handy in the foothills of Appalachia.

Strength in Versatility

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most recognizable SUVs on the planet, with its trademark vertical slot grill and a small, rigid body perched on large wheels. It’s also one of the most frequently customized vehicles, from paint scheme and decals to parts that make it even more of a beast on the backroads.

However, all of this customization starts with the very design of the Wrangler. For example, larger wheels mean it can accommodate larger tires, which equals greater ground clearance. As a result, the 2024 Jeep Wrangler has ground clearance of 12.9 inches, can ford water up to 34 inches deep, and comes with an approach angle of 47.4 degrees, a breakover angle of 27.8 degrees, and a departure angle of 40.4 degrees. For those who aren’t hard-core off-roaders, that means the gravel roads of Muskingum County are about to get a lot less stomach-churning and a lot more scenic.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler lineup includes seven distinct trims: the Sport, Sport S, Willys, Sahara, Rubicon, Rubicon X, and Rubicon 392. Most trims are available in two or four-door versions, along with a choice between up to four outstanding removable soft and hardtop options, including a Sky One-Touch powertop and Sunrider for the hardtop. Engine options throughout the lineup include a 3.6L V6 that provides 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engine good for 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and the new Rubicon 392’s mighty 6.4L V8, which is responsible for 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

And, if electric is more your style, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe comes equipped with a plug-in hybrid configuration that provides 370 miles of range on a full charge. And with Jeep’s initiative to install more solar-powered trail charging stations, this means no one has to miss out on the next big excursion. Regardless of which trim, top, engine, and color scheme you choose, your Jeep Wrangler will be exclusively yours… especially once you start adding some of the very cool Wrangler-specific accessories like tube doors and snorkels.

It’s Incredibly Fun

Besides the undeniable fun factor of open-air, each version of the 2024 Jeep Wrangler has its own personal collection of exciting amenities. From the massive 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that serves as the control center to the “stealth” antenna built into the windshield, every Wrangler is ready for whatever adventure your daily drive may bring. The Willys trim, for example, is outfitted with 33-inch tires that give it incredible ground clearance, along with steel rock rails and a rear-locking differential that helps drivers stay steady and articulate over and through obstacles with no problem. The Sahara trim adds heated seats, a digital instrument cluster, and a heated steering wheel.

The Rubicon trims are devoted to top-notch trail adventure. This starts with the water-resistant upholstery and includes a Dana 44 HD full-float rear axle, off-road tires, and 17-inch wheels. The Rubicon X not only gets a premium Alpine audio system and Nappa leather seats but steel bumpers, an integrated front-facing off-road camera to help gauge upcoming obstacles, and additional driver assistance technology, like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross path detection.

The newest addition, the top-shelf Wrangler Rubicon 392, includes nearly everything you might want for your next adventure vehicle, from automatic high beams to beadlock-capable wheels. With high-performance brakes, power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats, and Selec-Speed Control for low gear, the Rubicon 392 is in every way designed for the serious off-roader. And, if you’re newer to the sport of off-road driving, note that the Jeep Wrangler includes the Trails Off-Road guide, which provides details of all Jeep Badge of Honor trails. Premium subscription holders can access a full catalog of over 3,000 trail guides, which are displayed in detail on the infotainment screen.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler Is Made for Adventures on and off the Pavement

This generation truly is the most capable and practical Jeep Wrangler produced to date. Whether you drive on pavement, gravel, or dirt, no other Jeep vehicle has been engineered and designed with as much thought to truly driving anywhere, on any surface, in any weather condition. The Jeep Wrangler is gaining popularity because it offers drivers what they want: a vehicle that will perform as expected every time, with plenty of choices to ensure drivers get exactly the vehicle they need and want. Regardless of your off-roading experience, the Jeep Wrangler might be an option for any driver who likes a solid, stable drive, fresh air, and the ability to drive where you want, when you want.

Overhead view of a white 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee driving to a Jeep dealer.

There’s no denying that midsize SUVs have become one of the most popular options on the road, delivering bold power and excellent performance with a profile and size that can fit into most people’s lives. When you head to your favorite Jeep dealer, you’ll find the stunning Grand Cherokee as the perfect example of everything a midsize SUV can be. Recently revamped as part of an all-new generation, the 2024 Grand Cherokee delivers on the promise of what an SUV should bring to the road. Whether you’re looking for rugged performance and bold capability, a large interior with plenty of seating for friends and family, or gorgeous interior features that provide a luxury experience, the Grand Cherokee is ready to bring it home for you. Let’s have a good look at what the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers so you can see why so many people have made this their midsize SUV of choice.

Impressive Power for a Fantastic Drive

The heart of every vehicle is its engine, and while it’s easy to overlook the engine in something like a family SUV, that’s often a mistake. Even if you’re looking for a daily driver to get you through your commute, you still deserve something that’s fun to drive. Jeep understands this better than just about anyone else, and they’ve built the Grand Cherokee to provide a terrific driving experience that you’ll look forward to every day. This starts with the engine, which they’ve made simple by delivering one option for you to enjoy (there are two other engines, but they’re exclusive to the 4xe and Grand Cherokee L models).

You get a 3.6L V6 engine in the 2024 Grand Cherokee that delivers 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, ensuring you have a great time on the road. This comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that’s responsive and keeps things smooth, plus you get rear-wheel drive as standard. If you’re looking for improved traction in rough weather or on dirt roads, then available four-wheel drive (4×4) helps elevate things. Not content with just one option, you actually have three different 4×4 systems offered on the Grand Cherokee, including a Quadra-Drive II system with a rear electronic limited slip differential for excellent traction and control in the most challenging situations.

One of our favorite features of the Grand Cherokee these days is the class-exclusive Quadra-Lift Air Suspension that’s available for it. This system automatically lowers the Grand Cherokee when traveling at highway speeds, improving its aerodynamics for a better, more efficient ride. If you’re off-roading or dealing with speed bumps, the air suspension can raise the vehicle to help you clear obstacles and protect the underside of your Grand Cherokee. This makes for one of the most comfortable and downright decadent driving experiences on the road, ensuring you have a great time whenever you get behind the wheel.

The brown leather second row of seats in a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

A Spacious Interior with Bold Luxury

One of our favorite things about midsize SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee is that they provide the perfect middle ground between compact models and large or full-size options. This means you get a vehicle that won’t threaten to take over your life, but it still provides plenty of room inside to stretch out in and enjoy yourself. The standard Grand Cherokee is a two-row model with seating inside for up to five passengers, making it a terrific option for a wide range of drivers. If you need more people along with you, then look at the Grand Cherokee L model—we’ll check it out in a moment.

Looking at the standard Laredo model, you get plenty of room to be comfortable in, thanks to more than 41 inches of legroom up front and nearly 40 inches of headroom. Don’t worry about your rear-seat passengers, however, because they’ll have more than 38 inches of legroom to stretch out in and more than 39 inches of headroom. You get 145 cu.ft. of total passenger space inside the Grand Cherokee, so even if you have kids in the backseat, they’ll have plenty of room to keep to themselves. There’s also more than 37 cu.ft. of cargo space behind the rear seats and nearly 71 cu.ft. of total cargo volume inside the Grand Cherokee, giving you plenty of room for the stuff you need to bring along with you.

Comfort is the name of the game with the Grand Cherokee, thanks to gorgeous interior details and refined luxury, particularly if you go with the Overland or one of the Summit trims. Available options include 16-way adjustable seats with memory presets that make it easy to swap between multiple drivers, and there’s even a massage mode to make long road trips something you’ll look forward to. The available dual-pane panoramic sunroof affords a gorgeous view of the sky overhead, while perforated leather upholstery is comfortable in both hot and cold weather, ensuring you and your passengers have a terrific trip.

Innovative Technology Throughout

Tech features might not be the most important thing to every driver, but they can make your daily commute more enjoyable and make life a lot easier when things get busy. The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee has some of the most impressive technology we’ve seen in a while, starting with standard tech that includes an 8.4-inch infotainment system. You also get a huge selection of standard safety systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Active Lane Management to help you stay safely in your lane, and a Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking and Pedestrian/Cyclist Detection.

When you start looking at what’s available, however, you can quickly see that Jeep has left nothing off the table. For starters, there’s a gorgeous 10.1-inch infotainment display with Navigation that includes real-time traffic and weather updates, plus an incredible 10.25-inch Digital Cluster Display. Taking things even further, you can get an available 10-inch full-color Head-Up Display that’s projected onto the windshield, a dedicated front-passenger screen so your co-pilot can control audio and even send directions to the driver’s display, plus a pair of screens for keeping rear passengers entertained. And if you’re something of an audiophile, there’s a stunning 19-speaker McIntosh Audio premium sound system available with a 10-inch subwoofer that fills the interior with audio that you have to hear to believe.

Need More Room Inside? Check Out the Grand Cherokee L

We’ve already mentioned it a couple of times, but we wanted to briefly look at the impressive Grand Cherokee L model, which adds a third row of seats. With the Grand Cherokee L, you get an amazing three-row SUV featuring the largest wheelbase in its class, designed to ensure everyone inside is incredibly comfortable. Second-row bucket seats offer best-in-class legroom for your passengers, while available Quad-Zone automatic temperature control ensures everyone across all three rows is comfortable. With nearly 85 cu.ft. of total cargo volume inside the Grand Cherokee L, you can also load it up with everything you need and then hit the road.

A red 2024 Ram 2500 Power Wagon parked in a grassy field.

The pickup segment has exploded in popularity in recent years, with more and more drivers gravitating towards compact, midsize, and full-size trucks. The numbers speak for themselves. In 2016, pickup sales accounted for just over 16 percent of all new vehicle sales, but by 2022, that number rose to almost 21 percent. Pickups are certainly having their moment, but an influx of customers has seen the segment shift from its working-class roots towards a new model that prioritizes comfort and convenience over raw power and size. So where does this leave drivers looking for a no-nonsense, industrious truck that isn’t afraid to put in a little work? That’s where heavy-duty pickups like the 2024 Ram 2500 and 3500 come in. Built to a higher standard than your average full-size pickup, these stout pickups are designed to handle whatever you can throw at them.

While most full-size trucks have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) that tops out at 8,500 lbs, heavy-duty pickups are designed with towing and hauling in mind. Take the Ram 2500, for example. With a GVWR of 10,000 lbs, the Ram 2500 is a versatile pickup that can accommodate even the heaviest load while maintaining an impressive level of comfort. If that’s still not enough, take a lap in the Ram 3500, which can heft some 10,700 lbs without breaking a sweat. Of course, GVWR isn’t the only factor to consider when browsing your local Ram dealer for a new heavy-duty model. From power and towing capacity to next-generation tech features and one of the most robust suspension setups on the market, let’s take a closer look and see why the Ram 2500 and 3500 are the pickups of choice for discerning drivers.

Powerful Engine Options

Ram’s heavy-duty offerings also come with some of the most powerful standard engines in their class. With 410 hp under the hood, the Ram 2500 bests Chevy and Ford’s heavy-duty pickups, which come in at 401 and 405 hp respectively. The 6.4-liter HEMI V8 also boasts 429 lb-ft of torque, giving the pickup all the power it needs for even the most demanding applications. The V8 is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that’s won plenty of praise for its smooth shifting and power distribution, rounding out the pickups’ powertrains and making for a smooth, responsive ride.

The Ram 2500 and 3500’s brawny gas-powered engine might be a standout when compared to the F-250 and Silverado 2500 HD, but it’s not the only power plant on offer for 2024. The truck can also be had with a 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline-six in either a rear or four-wheel drive setup, giving drivers the opportunity to move mountains with a considerable upgrade in torque. The standard Cummins design—offered on both the 2500 and 3500—gives the Ram pickups 370 hp along with 850 lb-ft of torque.

While that should be more than enough for all but the most demanding towing projects, those opting for the Ram 3500 have the chance to upgrade to a high-output version of the diesel that ups the torque to some 1,075 lb-ft. The Cummins is a little weighty at more than 1,000 lbs, but the advantages of the diesel design more than make up for the added heft. Diesel isn’t just more efficient than gas; it also provides considerably more torque, emits fewer hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and lead pollution, and brings some real advantages when it comes to longevity. According to some experts, a diesel engine will routinely last two to four times longer than a comparable gas model, making it a no-brainer for those looking to reduce lifetime ownership and maintenance costs.

Towing and payload capacity are usually the go-to metrics when it comes to the heavy-duty end of the pickup segment, and the Ram 2500 and 3500 certainly don’t disappoint in either category. We’ll start with the 6.4-liter V8 on the Ram 2500, which offers 17,730 lbs of towing capacity along with a maximum payload rating of 4,000 lbs. Those might be some impressive numbers, but they’re nothing compared to the heavy-duty Ram’s diesel engines.

When optioned in its burliest guise, the Ram 3500 with the high-output Cummins diesel sets a high bar with a max towing capacity that tops 37,000 lbs. Throw in a max payload of 7,680 lbs, and it’s easy to see why the Ram 3500 has become the go-to choice for contractors, trade pros, and other drivers who know the importance of raw power. Those numbers see a decrease when opting for the 4×4 Ram 2500 but still hold their own with a total towing capacity of 19,990 lbs and a payload capacity of 3,150 lbs.

Ram Trucks Offer an Array of Towing Tech

Those numbers might put the Ram 2500 and 3500 towards the top of their respective classes, and while towing and payload capacity are important, they’re not the only factors to consider when shopping for your next heavy-duty pickup. Towing technology has come a long way in the last decade, and Ram has been at the forefront of the push to build a better, smarter truck.

Take the Ram’s Trailer Reverse Steering Control, for example. Any driver who has ever struggled to back up a trailer into a tight spot knows how frustrating this common towing task can be. Between glancing at your rearview mirror and figuring out which way to turn the steering wheel for the proper result, it never seems to go as smoothly as you’d like. Ram has engineered around this issue with its innovative Trailer Reverse Steering Control system, which allows drivers to use a simple dash-mounted knob to guide the trailer into place. When in use, the system actually takes control of the steering wheel itself, giving drivers one less thing to worry about.

But the Trailer Reverse Steering Control system is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Ram 2500 and 3500’s towing tech. With the 360-Degree Surround View Camera, drivers are treated to a handy bird’s-eye POV that displays your surroundings in one convenient feed. The system stitches together multiple camera angles from around the truck, creating a convenient view that makes it easy to spot any obstacles before they can do damage. This feature is also handy when it comes to attaching or backing up a trailer, making it the perfect complement for these hard-working Ram trucks.

We should also mention the available Digital Rearview Mirror, which improves on the old-fashioned rearview mirror by turning it into a real-time LCD monitor. Want a better view of whatever’s behind you? Activate the Digital Rearview Mirror, and you’ll be met with a live stream of the Ram’s rear-facing camera. The system can also be set to display the space to the left or right of any trailer you might be towing, improving safety and ensuring no unfortunate run-ins with unseen obstacles. If your trailer is outfitted with a rear-facing camera, that feed can also be displayed on the Digital Rearview Mirror as part of the wired tow mode system. There’s no underestimating the importance of horsepower and torque when it comes to a successful towing venture, but this sort of cutting-edge towing tech can make all the difference when it comes to getting the job done on time and on budget.

A Look at the Ram’s Bilstein Gas-Charged Monotube Shocks

When dealing with a truck that’s as weighty as the Ram 2500 and 3500, a good suspension can make all the difference. So how does Ram keep these 6,000 to 7,300-pound behemoths in check? By teaming up with one of the most trusted names in the world of shock absorption technology. Bilstein’s products can be found on many of the industry’s most successful full-size models, allowing drivers to unlock the full potential of their ride without sacrificing comfort.

On the Ram 2500 and 3500, the Bilstein name can be found stamped onto the trucks’ gas-charged monotube shocks. These gas-charged shocks have a number of advantages over the typical hydraulic design, offering a sportier, more responsive ride that should mesh well with the Rams’ hard-working reputation. Hydraulic shocks might offer an impressive level of comfort, but they often come at the cost of performance. Gas-charged shocks are quicker to compress than their fluid-filled cousins because, unlike oil, the air can compress when put under pressure.

This compression allows the shocks to act more quickly than hydraulic designs, which have to wait for the oil to pass through small valves within the shocks themselves. Gas-charged shocks might not offer as cushy of a ride as hydraulic shocks, but if you’re looking to improve off-road cornering and braking, they’re hard to beat. The Ram 2500 and 3500’s gas-charged Bilstein monotube shocks have also been shown to drastically reduce overall vibrations, which can go a long way when it comes to reducing tire wear and improving a truck’s longevity.

Of course, you also can’t discount the advantages of the Bilstein shocks’ monotube design. While twin-tube shocks use an inner tube to house a piston and an outer tube to serve as the shock body, monotube shocks are built with a single tube that pulls double duty. This approach offers some real benefits in terms of performance, especially when it comes to dissipating heat. Monotube shocks can also accommodate larger pistons than twin-tube products—up to 288 percent larger, according to Bilstein—and are less likely to experience foaming or loss of viscosity as the shock’s oil and gas are relegated to separate chambers.

All told, monotube shocks are hard to beat when it comes to responsiveness and control and are less likely to experience shock fade than your garden-variety offering. These qualities make the Bilstein gas-charged monotube shocks the perfect pairing for the Ram 2500 and 3500, giving drivers the ability to navigate even the toughest terrain with confidence.

The Ram 2500 and 3500 Have the Heavy-Duty Power You’re Looking For

A powerful lineup of engines, a full suite of advanced towing tech, and advanced Bilstein gas-charged monotube shocks aren’t the only tricks the Ram 2500 and 3500 have up their sleeves. The pickups are also available with Auto-Level Rear Air Suspension, a class-exclusive feature that can make all the difference when it comes to leveling out a load or traversing tough terrain. It’s just one more feature that makes the Ram 2500 and 3500 stand out in their class, giving drivers access to unparalleled performance.

There are some big changes coming to one of America’s favorite full-size pickups for the 2025 model year. Visit your local Ram dealer, and you’ll notice a new contender in the spot once occupied by the luxurious Limited trim in the 2025 Ram 1500 Tungsten. The full-size pickup has been treated to a luxury makeover in the form of the new Tungsten trim, which jumps the Longhorn and Limited to become Ram’s new range-topping option.

The Tungsten’s brother trim, the RHO—a careful mix of muscle and refinement—puts the Ram 1500 into immediate contention as one of the segment’s best luxury pickups. Eagle-eyed drivers will notice that the off-road-ready Ram 1500 TRX is nowhere to be found for 2025, but don’t fret, Four-Wheel Fans, because Ram drivers looking for a little backwoods fun will welcome the addition of the new RHO trim. Intended as a larger, more heavy-duty version of the already-capable Ram 1500, the RHO is sure to delight those who have a passion for the off-road lifestyle.

But the Tungsten and the RHO aren’t the only additions to the Ram 1500 lineup for 2025. Ram is also looking towards the future with two alternative fuel options for 2025 as it brings the Ramcharger hybrid and the all-electric Ram 1500 REV to market. The Ramcharger offers the best of both worlds with a 663 hp engine that boasts an estimated 145 miles of all-electric range, but the Ram 1500 REV is the real showstopper. With a 14,000-pound towing capacity and estimated range of 500 miles, the Ram 1500 REV manages to not only match but surpass many of its gas-powered rivals while saving drivers large sums of money at the pump.

New Hurricane Engine

It’s time to say goodbye to the pickup’s Hemi V8 engine, which will now be replaced by a 3.0L Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline-six engine. Those fearing a downgrade in power will be happy to learn that the Hurricane inline-six actually bests the Hemi in a few important categories, all while delivering improved efficiency and reducing the pickup’s carbon footprint.

While V8 purists might balk at the decision to drop the Hemi V8, most drivers will agree that the switch marks a notable upgrade in a few important ways. First, and most importantly, there’s the power. The 3.0L twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six might lose two cylinders compared to its predecessor, but a little forced induction goes a long way, with the 2025 model’s beefiest engine besting the Hemi by 25 ponies for a total output of 420 hp. In fact, the Hurricane engine is the most powerful six-cylinder setup in the full-size class, giving the Ram 1500 an immediate edge over its longtime Ford and Chevy rivals.

Those seeking an even more powerful Ram 1500 have the option of upgrading to a High Output version of the Hurricane inline-six, which offers a whopping 540 hp along with 521 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough power to give the 2025 Ram 1500 11,560 lbs of towing capacity and a max payload of 2,300 lbs. The Hurricane lineup has brought an overhaul for Ram powertrains across the board, with new technologies, a deep-skirt cast-aluminum block with structural alloy oil pan, and cross-bolted steel main bearing caps that allow the brand to produce one of the most well-rounded power plants to date.

The Hurricane inline-six should also improve on the Hemi’s fuel efficiency, though Ram has yet to release specific figures. With the relatively thirsty Hemi drawing an EPA-estimated 18 MPG city/22 highway for a combined fuel economy rating of 19 MPG, the turbocharged Hurricane could go a long way toward reducing the Ram 1500’s overall ownership cost. This economical upgrade is thanks in part to the engine’s honed deck plate, which improves fuel economy with a precisely shaped cylinder bore.

Tungsten

Ram certainly has a way with names when it comes to trims for its flagship pickup. The prehistorically-inspired TRX is probably the most notable in recent memory, but the new, ultra-luxe Tungsten trim gives it a run for its money. Last seen in 2018 as the Ram Limited Tungsten Edition, the trim is named after the metallic element that’s both stronger and rarer than steel, reflecting the trim level’s mindful synthesis of power and opulence.

Exterior upgrades are limited to trim-specific front styling with a unique front fascia, a body-colored bumper, and 22-inch wheels with a machined finish, but the interior is where the Tungsten really shines. Ram has deployed all of the premium materials it could muster to design the Tungsten’s interior, giving the pickup a sumptuous makeover that includes 24-way power-adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage, new surface textures, materials, and a noticeable upgrade in craftsmanship.
The truck’s Nappa Plus leather is based on an Indigo/Sea Salt color scheme that’s offset by the Tungsten-inspired stitching, while artificial suede and diamond-stitched surfaces set the trim apart from the rest of the Ram 1500 lineup. The Ram remains appropriately sporty thanks to the inclusion of knurled metal, chrome trim, carbon fiber, and etched stainless steel, but it’s the small details that make all the difference. The Tungsten’s VIN badge set within the armrest and crystal-effect shifter center cap are two such details, marking the Tungsten as a one-of-a-kind trim level.

Premium audio systems have become par for the course on the upper end of the trim ladder, but the Ram 1500 Tungsten still manages to impress with a best-in-class Klipsch Reference Premiere Audio System powered by a 24-channel, 1,228-watt amplifier. The Klipsch system sees 23 speakers set throughout the cabin, including some inventive new placements that go a long way in improving the mobile listening experience.

Four full-range speakers mounted in the headliner leverage Panasonic’s DJX 3D Surround algorithm to deliver unparalleled fidelity while a 12-inch DualPower high-excursion subwoofer allows you to feel the bass on every track, but it’s the Tungsten’s Coaxial Centerback speakers that mark the most novel addition. Sized at 3.5 in, these two speakers are mounted on the rear of the driver and front passenger seats, allowing rear-seat passengers to enjoy a level of audio quality that’s usually reserved for the front of the cabin. Panasonic’s active noise canceling (ANC) technology filters out intrusive sounds while the system’s diamond-shaped metal speaker grilles blend in with the interior’s prevailing aesthetic.

Ram 1500 RHO

Ram’s new full-size off-road pickup might lack the TRX’s 702 hp, supercharged Hemi V8, but it has the High Output version of the new Hurricane engine, which delivers an ample 540 hp to play with. That makes the RHO the most powerful trim in the 2025 Ram 1500 lineup, which can bring all sorts of advantages both on-road and off.

Besides, horsepower isn’t always the most crucial factor when choosing an off-road pickup. Sure, there’s something to be said for the sort of high-speed antics enabled by the TRX’s Hemi V8, but experienced drivers know that the off-road formula is a little more nuanced. The RHO still packs plenty of off-road tricks up its sleeve and, refreshingly, should cost less than the $96,000 TRX we saw in 2024. We’re not saying Ram’s previous off-road warrior didn’t live up to its price tag, but with an estimated cost of around $85,000, the RHO will be more within reach for the average driver.[a] That $10,000 in savings can be put towards outfitting the pickup with any aftermarket equipment you might need for your own off-road niche, whether it be a new winch, snorkel, light bar, or rooftop tent.

The RHO isn’t set to hit the market until the latter half of the year, so details are still a little hard to come by, but we do know one thing: this isn’t going to be one of those pared-down “soft-roaders” that look the part without packing the necessary components. If the price and specs of the outgoing TRX are any indication, the RHO will likely be outfitted with the same wide body and heavy-duty frame as the Ram 1500’s previous off-road iteration. The 2024 TRX also sported a long-travel suspension that could compress by as much as 13 in, along with Bilstein remote-reservoir dampers, an electronic-locking rear differential, and 15-inch front brakes. Only time will tell if the RHO will manage to replicate that setup, but in an era where off-road trucks are all the rage, we’re counting on a versatile off-roader that does the Ram name proud.

If you’re the type of driver who won’t settle for anything less than the TRX, you could be waiting a while. RAM is putting the nameplate out to pasture for the time being, though we have a hard time believing that the dino-inspired off-roader is going extinct for good. In all likelihood, Ram will revive the TRX when it finds a powertrain worthy of the name, with the march towards electrification holding all sorts of promise for the storied trim.

It’s a Good Year to Get Behind the Wheel of a Ram 1500

With the 2025 Ram 1500, the automaker once again proves that the full-size segment is no two-horse race. Ram has doubled down on everything there is to love about the iconic pickup, giving drivers some enticing new options when it comes to luxury, efficiency, and off-road performance. The RHO is a welcome addition to the lineup, enhancing the Ram 1500’s go-anywhere reputation and improving on the base trim without breaking the bank. The Tungsten trim holds the potential to elevate your daily driving experience, turning those long commutes and road trips into something you might actually look forward to with its convenient, stylish, and well-appointed cabin. Sure, no one likes being stuck in a traffic jam, but it’ll be a little easier to deal with when you’re enjoying a heated massage and listening to your favorite album on a sound system that would make most audiophiles jealous. The Hurricane twin-turbocharged V6 might be the Ram 1500’s most notable upgrade for 2025, allowing drivers to enjoy one of the most powerful Ram 1500s to date without paying the price at the pump. No matter what you’re looking for, one thing is for sure: it’s a good year to get behind the wheel of a Ram 1500.
